Forget This Final Fantasy Nonsense: Bring Back Suikoden

Final Fantasy will always be my favorite RPG franchise of all time.

But as I have little to no interest in Final Fantasy XV or the Final Fantasy VII Remake (which will undoubtedly be another Square Enix debacle in my mind), I'd rather not think about the demise of a once legendary series.

I'd much rather consider the possibility of seeing another Suikoden . I know it seems unlikely right now, and I know it was never super popular outside of Japan. Even so, I always say it's my second-favorite role-playing IP in existence, primarily because of the great stories and excellent gameplay. Yes, it was turn-based but as we saw in Suikoden III , they implemented a system where characters could still move between turns. A nice hybrid RPG system, updated to look and feel modern, would work perfectly for a new Suikoden .

And honestly, I'd love to see those 108 Stars of Destiny return. I was ripped off with that comically silly ending for getting all 108 in the original game, but I've done it several times now and I still enjoy it. Never managed it in Suikoden II , though (and yes, I own a mint condition copy of that game). With the right developer and mindset, a new installment for PlayStation 4 could be downright fantastic, don't you think?

I'd like to see more Suikoden. Heck. I'd like to see a remastered release of the PS2 games.
Though I've only completed the first game. Pretty sure I got all the stars too myself.
I'm eager to play Suikoden 2. It's regarded as the all around greatest jrpg of all time by many. I would like to find out for myself.

FYI and SPOILER: It only counts if Leknaat showed up and resurrected Gremio…otherwise, you didn't get all 108 SoDs.

Suikoden II is definitely the better game but I just liked the original more. Not sure why.

Suikoden III was my favorite. The Trinity System is incredible stuff!

Ben, I think I did get the Gremio ending… either that or I watched that ending on youTube… But nah, I think I actually did it
…..
Dang it! can't remember. I'll have to go and check because if I know I had it'd strengthen my resolve to do it again for Suikoden II.

and LV, maybe someone needs to start a petition for Sony to port Suikoden III to PSN 😉

As in a PS4 port, all trophified and 1080p.

There comes a point in the story where you have to have the maximum number of Stars available at that time (like 102 or something), and if you do, Leknaat shows up and revives Gremio. It's just before the final battle.

The ending is just the main character and Gremio talking in the woods, then they walk off together. Lame.

5 was my favorite but to be honest I'm only halfway through 2. Shame on me.

With the way Konami is acting. I'd say we will never get another suikoden unless konami allows someone to buy the ip from them.

I really hope they go under and sell all of their properties to Sony.

This is one of those RPGs that I didn't get to play along with Valkyria chronicles =/

Perhaps you should take the time to play them? Maybe it's my age but I still enjoy playing the old classics from time to time.

Wasn't VC more of like a strategy RPG, and not so much a normal jRPG?

Profile 2 was really neat and didn't get enough attention.

Suikoden and Star Ocean are tied for my personal favorite RPGs. I have beaten the first two so many times I could probably novelize them with little effort. With as good as Suikoden V was, I was always disappointed when the months (and then years) went by with no follow-up (and no, Tierkries does NOT count). However… it begs the question of what would happen to the series if it were to be revived. It is easier for me to imagine literally every Final Fantasy as an action RPG before even a single Suikoden, but that seems to be the way of things anymore (except for the myriad JRPGs that Atlus, NIS, fromSoftware, etc. tirelessly pump out). Even so… if the most important elements of the series remained the same (storytelling, 108 stars, genre blending), I would certainly be willing to give major format changes a shot. Thinking about it, though, with a new Star Ocean on the horizon… I suppose a Suikoden VI is certainly far from impossible.

So happy Star Ocean decided not to call it quits. The Tales games are making me sad.

I think after they completely screw up FFVII remake, S-E will sell the franchise or go bankrupt themselves, even FF14 right now is going down the tubes, allot of people are not interested in FFXV, i just hope if the FF series goes for sale…Naughty Dog buys it.

FFXIV's sub numbers have been steady. They spiked huge with the expansion, then settled back down to normal. You might just been noticing the drop from the expansion release to now.

Although, I myself don't play FFXIV much anymore either.

Sony should certainly be the ones to buy the property but I think SE will keep a death grip on it even as they fade into irrelevance.

Big shout out to the folks at the Suikoden Revival Movement for their lobbying to finally get Suikoden II and III to PSN.

Wanted to marry Chris Lightfellow. An ice cold b*tch and a total naive sweetheart. Yummy

Sadly now we need them on PS4 with their awesome new backwards compatibility though.

I'd love to see a Suikoden revival. Too bad konami owns the IP and apparently can't wait to get out of the console development space :-/

I'd love a new Suikoden (V was my favorite). While we're at it, bring back Shadow Hearts too!! 🙂

Suikoden II and V are my 2 favorite Suikoden games. Although I've collected all the 108 characters for all Suikoden games, Suikoden II is the one that I've memorized getting all the 108 characters without using a guide.. ^_^

Dude…props. I can still do that in the first one but I think it's harder in the second.

These games were so great. I wish that these companies that sit on their IP's for decades would just start bidding them out to companies that wouldn't mind reviving them. Xenogears, Chrono series, Suikoden just to name a few.

Konami seems to be on their way out. Maybe they could make some cha-ching buy selling the IP rights to Sony?
