Unless you've got money to burn, you're probably pretty cautious about expensive purchases.
New video game systems definitely qualify, especially once you factor in games, accessories, warranties, etc. This is why, for most consumers, one game can't entice them to drop such a hefty amount of cash.
But admit it: Has one game actually managed to sway you in the past? I'm willing to bet that many who owned the original Xbox will have to step up to the plate here, because we all know you got that system for Halo . You might've ended up coming home that day with one of the other lackluster launch titles but we all know the truth: Without Halo , you would never picked up an Xbox at launch. Going way back, I guess we could probably say the same thing about the original NES. It was Super Mario Bros. and nothing else, of course. In those days, though, game systems didn't launch with a bevy of titles.
So, have you ever caved? Was it Soul Calibur and the Dreamcast? Resistance: Fall of Man and the PS3? Or was it a console that had already been out for a while, and one game launched that made you finally break out the wallet? I know for many, it was Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec on PS2. Here's your chance to fess up!
Never for me. Sonic was a very big reason I got a Genesis, but there were others like a bloody version of Mortal Kombat.
Bought a re-furbed original Xbox for Gears of War.
Didn't like the 1st Halo, felt the game was to kid-dish looking. Matter of fact, didn't really start caring for Halo that much until the 3rd came out & every one since then.
u mean 360?
OOPs, now that you mentioned it, it wasn't Gears, but damned if I can think of what it was atm.
Damned CRS syndrome.
i bet i know the one if its gear-like but damned if i remember the name. My primary reasons for the original xbox were Halo and DOA3 and Hype.
I bought a psp for Crisis Core and a 360 for Lost Odyssey!!
I bought a 360 for Halo 3.
I bought an overpriced smartphone just to play angry bird…
lol
I would have got a PS3 anyway but I got it earlier because of the storied turn-based exclusive entry in the franchise of all franchises which was coming soon at the time: Final Fantasy XIII.
Such a hopeful world we once lived in.
I bought a PS1 with no particular game in mind. It was my first console purchase as an adult. I hadn't played anything for several years and didn't have a clue what was available, so I had to ask the clerk for any suggestions they could make.
xbox 1 to play Sunset Overdrive.
After a couple of months it has been turned on again to play Rot Tomb Raider
Who's the Blondie in the picture?
I got a PSP for Dissidia
A Nintendo Gamecube for Super Smash Bros Melee
Nope. I BORROWED a console for one game (Shenmue 2 on the original Xbox) Ive never spent money on a console for one game though
Never did. Almost bought and X1 for Forza

Yes, I bought a Wii, specifically for Monster Hunter Tri. And a WiiU for Monster Hunter 3U.
Sad thing is, I've kinda given up on the series, since it seems to be a handheld exclusive now. I used to play Unite, like mad, on the PSP, but for some reason, I can't get into it on 3DS.
Thankfully, in terms of the Wii and WiiU, there's also Xenoblade, so it's not a total wash.
I loved that series and just wish they would release one for the PS4, even if it is an HD remake of Freedom Unite 2 or a port of the WiiU one.
I'm been playing Toukiden Kiwami on the PS4 and while similar it makes me want a real Mhunter game even more.
Sonic on Sega Genesis. Sure I found other games, but it was all about that speedy little hedgehog. Actually Genesis was one of my lesser game collections. Only Sega Master System had less.
GTAIV on PS3. I was such a huge fan of GTA at that time, so I could not stand waiting for the PC version.
I chose the PS3 over a Xbox because a buddy had one and it featured a good blu-ray player (something that was expensive back then).
My ps3 still plays every blu ray disc Netflix sends which skips in a dedicated player.
Xbox 1 for the Rare collection best deal for 30$ plus at the time i got Arkham Knight for free.
I bought a Japanese 3DSS for Project Mirai.
Bayonetta 2 made me buy a console for it,i had no idea at the time how terrible the gamepad was that i also was force to buy a pro controller just to be able to play that one game. The game was worth it and thats about the only positive thing i have to say.I have twilight princess to look foward to and thats about it.I would say Xenoblade but NoA wants to censored its games for the kiddies so i will be ignoring it.
I did. Bought a PS1 for FFVII.
Totally worth it then.
9/9/99
Sega Dreamcast – a day in infamy.
I spent so much $$$ buying 4 games 4 controllers also getting those tamagotchi looking memory cards for each controller. Then when everything was said and done I didn't have enough money left for the 30 dollar
"electronic protection package"
Well 6 months later
it stopped working
(as did a plethora of dreamcast consoles around that same time)
I had to pay to get it fixed
I was even forced to send it to Sega's repair center twice in a row.
Eventually after punting it halfway across my living room the second time it came back with problems, I sold it to funcoland everything included (it just so happened to that the clerk never checked if a game would work) because at that point it was a glossy shiny new paperweight.
bad memories
the game I bought the system for ?
Resident Evil: Code Veronica supposed to have been a launch title,
delayed for over two years haha
Since then I've been a straight up Sony guy.
Sorry to hear that, although my own original DC's still working just fine.
My DC is still working 🙂 Its bad that you had an experience like that.
yeah but c'mon that version of Code Veronica blew PS2 version out of the water on graphics and stability.
My DC is still going strong, bought a second just in case and now that one is still going. Great emulator and when you add the VGA box Shenmue and others rival today's graphics.
Dreamcast 4 lyfe!
Sega should do a kickstarter for the dreamcast 2,that would break all sorts of records.
I'd fund it with a lot. I think Nintendo is on its way down (NX as whatever kind of desperate response to the black hole of Wii U) and with the short attention spans today a Sega system like DC which catered to Arcade and party style games as well as japanese and great exclusives could be much loved. It would probably need the power to play multiplats but a few off the shelf PC parts do that now.
Imagine Bayonaise and Alien and Platinum games Shemue Iv, V, and VI and more being exclusive to DC2.
It's not to say I didn't have fun with the dreamcast
as short of a time as it turned out.
Vigilante 8 , Power Stone , Shadowman , Soul Reaver
Cutting edge games for the time
those first couple months were awesome.
Gamecube for the fantastic remake of Resident Evil
and Sega dreamcast for Resident evil Code Veronica.
Same, I got the GC just to play the RE remakes, worth every penny.
I specifically got my PS4 because my PC was too weak for Fallout 4.
I admit, I wanted the system anyway…but that was what put me over the edge.
MGS4 was the sole reason I got a ps4.
Were you disappointed when the system couldnt play the game 😉
HAH
Yes actually haha, obviously a ps3. Typo error.
I'd have to say SNES primarily for Super Mario World and then 360 for Halo 3. Other than that I've always been a Sega and Sony guy
I bought Nintendo 64 because of Mario 64. I think I bought another game after but I dont remember which one. Then all games I played afterwards on that console were Blockbuster video game rentals.
Picked up a 360 specifically for Mass Effect 2. My brother had one, and I had to chance to play it when I was at my folks' house after college. Decided I needed to play it, so I bought a 360 Elite. It's currently collecting dust, and even though the game came out on PS3 I don't regret my decision one bit.
Heck yeah! I got a PS1 for Symphony of the Night and PS2 for GTA 3
