Seems to happen every year, doesn't it?
Each year, the user review rating for the new Call of Duty is in the tank while the professional reviews are much higher.
This year's Black Ops III is no exception; as you can see on Metacritic , the official critical average is 85 while the user review average right now is 4.7. Obviously, that's quite the gap but it's nothing new.
I guess the question is: Why? Is it just because any idiot with a computer wants to prove he's not a sheep and loves to bash the the most popular series in existence so he can appear all smart and singular? Well, if you actually read some of those "reviews," many of which are barely legible, one could assume that MUS (Moron User Syndrome) is the culprit. It's always amazing to me how many gamers actually believe all critics are stupid, paid-off, or some such nonsense. I heard someone say in a store that "critics aren't gamers" and "only gamers should review games." …that level of ego, ignorance and irrational ridiculousness makes my teeth hurt, but whatever.
The other explanation is that Call of Duty is really only resonating with the casual crowd that really doesn't read reviews or write user reviews. They just want to play with their friends and that's that. This would imply that CoD is a dominant franchise only because of the casual/mainstream draw and the "hardcore" gaming crowd only delights in slamming the series…because it makes them feel better? Not sure. But there has to be a mix of both casual and core, right?
Why do you think the user review score is always so low?
Related Game(s): Call of Duty: Black Ops III
I imagine many low user-scores come from those who once played CoD a lot and have to affirm to themselves why they're sticking with some other online FPS game by writing hate reviews. It's how they cope with the hype and excitement of a competing franchise while they try to stay loyal to something else.

Hipsters man, "Everyone likes this and thinks it's awesome so that means i can't act like i do", these rejects do the same thing with assassins creed. Clearly if millions buy a title EVERY damn year it must be shit, right?
People like to troll games with user reviews. It happens with every game, but the higher profile it is, the more trolls it attracts. Over time, sincere reviews stack up while trolls get bored and move on to whatever else is new, and the user average climbs.

Amazing game!! Nuff said.
User score doesn't matter anymore.
What does matter is the user review.
So I read reviews(the proper ones), no matter critics or users, instead of judging by looking at the scores since anyone can score a game but not writing in details about their experience.
That being said, it still irritates me that great games get low score.
So far so good.
I dont hate on it because its popular in fact I loved cod4 and mw2 and have countless days in gameplay time in fact I used to defend it constantly even on this site. Its just not that good anymore just the same thing year after year with a few little things thrown on and a huge marketing campaign to make it seem new and exciting.
I guess thats the sad thing about the gaming industry atm its all about making as much money as possible as quickly as possible with yearly releases instead of giving a new unique experience. But this is just my two cents I mean it doesnt mother me that people enjoy it hell I used to.
As for the user reviews it probably is just idiots because regardless as a product the cod games are still solid titles.

When I REALLY wanna see stupidity, I sometime read user reviews from various products on amazon…I really think some people just love to complain and bash products for no other reason but because they can.
This is actually the first COD that I've enjoyed sonce MW3. Except I tried the zombie mode last night, and I hate how much they've changed. Zombies hasn't been fun since the first black ops. Its too many steps involved when trying to do easter eggs anor surviving in later rounds. Just give me a pack-a-punch machine from the get go like Der Riese and let me do my thing.
