Want A Peek At Mass Effect: Andromeda’s Jet-Pack Feature?

Okay, so it's not much (and it's supposedly old) but it's our first real peek at the next Mass Effect , so fans might be intrigued.

Though we have yet to see an official launch trailer for the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda , NeoGAF user Taker34 says he got a piece of footage "from a certain developer who is currently working" on the game in question.

You can see that snippet here ; the original video upload was sadly taken down, but a GIF remains. Interestingly, it showcases the new jet-pack ability, which is going to be a very significant addition to the franchise. In point of fact, though, gaming sleuth shinobi602 said this particular footage is from 2014 and "it doesn't look like this now." Well, that's not too surprising.

If you hadn't heard, there was a leaked marketing survey that teased fans with some story and setting info:

"Players will lead the fight for a new home in history territory–where WE are the aliens–opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us.

Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained explorers in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customization systems. This is the story of humanity's next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda galaxy."

So, who's pumped for Mass Effect: Andromeda ?

Haha You know what I mean, but if what you say is actually true, why even make mention of the game 2 yrs and some change ago. Hopefully they release it this year

Lol gotta appease the masses. Never played ME1, but ME2/3 rpg stat elements are very Division like.

ME1 was an RPG first with a shooter shell on it. You could holster your gun whenever, the bullet system was RNG, even with your reticle on them there was a dice roll on the bullet spread. You could mod your weapons to not overheat if you were nerdy enough, enemies didn't scale in level with you. The list goes on.

ME2 and 3, the game was heavily reliant on the shooting. You can beat the game without leveling up your character once because of enemy scaling, there was no loot system, very little armor that did essentially nothing but changed the look of your character.

ME1 success was based on your stats more than your twitch abilities, although you still had to aim.

ME2/3 success was based on your skill as a player and had nothing to do with your level or stats. Proof is that the games are able to be completed without leveling up once.

A real RPG you can't do this, or if you can the game has to be "gamed" people beat FF7 for example without using anything other than lv1 materia, people do dark souls lv1 runs etc.

Every source on earth calls Mass Effect an Action/RPG, which is what it is. GameSpot calls it that, IGN calls it that; they ALL do. If ME is nothing more than a shooter, than neither is Fallout. Dumb.

I think it's really funny that you talk about the ME series not relying on what you equip and your stats, because of course it does, and even funnier that such a statement is actually only applicable to the FFXV demo, where it was obvious from the start that your "finger ability" is the ONLY thing that matters.

The article you just wrote quoted the leak by the people that made the game stating that it was a third person shooter.

" Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained explorers in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customization systems."

There words not mine.

You can get through most of Fallout without killing people, ME2 and 3 its impossible. There are a lot more options available.

ME1 relied heavily on stats and upgrades, ME2 and ME3 much less, everyone who played the trilogy agrees on this. I actually liked the first game more for its emphasis on RPG elements, where as the sequels had half the RPG elements that didn't really affect that much.

10% to this and that on your armor in ME2 did nothing. It was cosmetic for the most part.

I said it is a Shooter first RPG second. The game relies on your aiming and dexterity more than your stats and planning. Your failure relies on human error, not unlucky "dice rolls".

Those same sources are praising the FF15 Platinum demo by the way 😉

If we are talking about demos the ME2 and ME3 demos don't show us anything about the progression, stats, loot(what little there is) or any RPG elements either. The ME demos relied only on your finger abilities.

I'm not saying there isn't any RPG elements in ME2 and 3, but what is there is watered down, and it is definitely a shooter before it is an RPG, that is half the reason they took out the dice rolls that ME1 had in its shooting mechanics. They wanted it to be more skill based less stat and RNG based.

Because you know CoD was king of the market in 2010, gotta appease that lowest common denominator.

I personally like the shift away from what ME sounded like it once was. Improved shooting mechanics in the ME universe is definitely a plus. Kind of like Fallout 4's improved mechanics compared to New Vegas/FO3.

The armor/weapon drop was a notable exclusion in ME2/ME3, but made sense since I had specific weapons/armor from my base. From what I remember, leveling was important.

Also, that ultra reliance on stats is game breaking for some and migraine inducing do I can see why they would change that.

Dice roll??? I personally could careless for that.

I've always argued that ME wasn't an RPG. It relies on 90% skill of being able to shoot a weapon. The only depth these games have anymore is the story. But I wouldn't consider depth in dialogue choices to make it an rpg. Everything aside the things that even remotely make these games rpg lite are all novelty.

I wouldn't compare Fallout to ME either. Because Fallouts leveling system weighs heavily into how you play the game. The skills you use are very important to various situations. Weapons and armor play as large a roll.

These traits are non existent in ME 2 and 3. You really could beat the game without using a single skill point. Try that in Fallout…

No argument here Big. I agree entirely. Just saying I like the improved shooting mechanics in both!;)

Yeah Fallout is much improved, although I still rely on VATS.

ME will be more improved I'm sure. I still think it will suffer the same as most third person shooters do, with cover mechanics, etc…

Unfortunately those things didn't matter much until recent entries when shooting became the focal point.
