New FFXV Gameplay Info Includes Fishing And Character Details

More details for those anxiously anticipating Final Fantasy XV .

Square Enix revealed more gameplay information during a livestream event at the Tokyo Game Show yesterday, and they addressed topics like fishing and chocobo riding .

They say fishing will be very important because it helps to restore and even buff characters. Players will be able to fish in ponds and lakes, and you actually have to "fight" the fish when you finally get a bite. Once the fish has been reeled in, it can be cooked and given to members of the party. Different fish will have different effects. …anyone else reminded of Nier ?

Chocobo riding will return as well; we'll be able to walk, dash and jump to reach higher elevations, as has been the case in past FF installments. Director Hajime Tabata also said there was a possibility of introducing the iconic Gilgamesh in a downloadable content pack.

Then there was the official reveal of the mysterious black-haired woman seen in earlier trailers. Her name is Gentiana and she "plays an important role" in the game's story. Tabata also shared some details about Regis, the father of the game's main character Noctis:

"The events of Final Fantasy XV center around a war in the nation of Niflheim, which has taken control of the world save for one country, Lucis. Noctis and his father Regis reside in Lucis, which has maintained its independence thanks to the crystal it possesses. Regis is the current guardian of the crystal and possesses a power similar to Noctis, being able to conjure weapons out of thin air. Regis uses his power to hold up a shield around Lucis, an act which ages him. Noctis' mother passed away when he was an infant."

Final Fantasy XV will launch simultaneously for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016. Supposedly, we'll get a finalized release date in March . And if you missed it, here's the new trailer – Dawn 2.0 – Square Enix showed off during their TGS presentation.

Actually looking forward to this. If it's anything like Crisis Core with an open world, should be fun. Graphics looks great.

Likewise, looking forward to it.
Hopefully will be a return to good story telling form (thought XIII 'series' was a bit of a let down in that respect!)
