Ark Developer: New Consoles Are Easier To Developer For

What do developers think of the current generation of consoles as compared to the last generation?

Well, Studio Wildcard, the team responsible for Ark: Survival Evolved , believes it's just easier this time around.

Founder Jesse Rapczak told GamingBolt that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are very similar in terms of demands on development, while last generation, Xbox 360 was the "clear winner." He said the PS3 "required a lot of specialized expertise" but now, "both platforms are relatively easy to develop for."

As for comparing PS4 and Xbox One, Rapczak commented on the Xbox One's edge in the CPU department, but added that PS4's more powerful GPU balances things out:

"One thing that I will say that is very interesting is that our game is limited by CPU for rendering right now. A lot of people know that the Xbox has a stronger CPU than the PS4. That’s not to say that it runs better on the Xbox or PlayStation, but the PlayStation having a little bit more powerful GPU is offset by the fact that our game requires a lot of CPU to run well. It’s kind of a balance between the two right now for different reasons."

It sounds a little like the game might run better on Xbox One, but we'll have to wait and see. Ark: Survival Evolved , which is currently available via Steam, is set to launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC in June 2016.

I think the concept of ARK sounds cool but the steam early access crap is really annoying. Devs are basically selling their games based on what it COULD be rather than what they are. Plus it allows lazy devs to release a broken game as "early access", do a few minor updates and then just drop it.

Seeing as how they have updated the game at least 1-3 times a day since it launched in early access almost two months ago, albeit fixes and new content, they have proven to be one of the rare developers that actually cares about their project enough to keep improving it. It's also been atop, or near the top, of the Steam sale charts and for good reason as the game is a blast to play with a group. Granted if your PC isn't very strong, then it'll be almost unplayable in it's current state.
