Kojima Says It Again: “MGSV Will Be The Last Metal Gear”

Well, this is par for the course.

At some point during the development of a new Metal Gear Solid entry, creator Hideo Kojima pops up and says it'll be the last one.

And Kojima admits to doing this in speaking to IGN , but maybe he really means it this time. He didn't say the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain would be the last game with "Metal Gear" in the title, but he does say that MGSV will be the last official series installment:

"I always say this will be my last Metal Gear, but the games in the series that I've personally designed and produced–Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now MGSV–are what constitute a single Metal Gear Saga. With MGSV, I'm finally closing the loop on that saga.

In that sense, this will be the final Metal Gear Solid. Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues, this is the last 'Metal Gear.'"

Yeah, well, we'll see. At any rate, we're pretty sure we can look forward to a sequel to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance .

Oh come on, the dynamic between the two would be classic.

Snake: War has changed. So too does life change. There's no winners or losers in war. Life is about…
Sam: Stop it. Spare me the life philosophy B.S. All that matters is the mission and stopping world terrorists and keeping my daughter safe.
Snake: 'puffs cig and exhales' "I've been through enough "missions" to tell you that safety is just an illusion mankind strives for but only keeps through war"
Sam: 'rolls eyes' "ENOUGH. Let's focus on the mission dammit"

I don't consider rising to be a real part of the whole metal gear story line, after all both snakes did, having a bunch of mass produced Rays and modified soldiers and crap messing up the world 4 or some-odd years after mgs4 just seems crappy, in regards to this being the last metal gear, i don't really see where else they could take this story after filling in this time gap, a remake of the original 2 and maybe even metal gear solid in hd would be a good call though.

Start a whole new story and characters. This time during the dark ages.

Is anyone else really excited about the new MGO? I obviously love the story in MGS games but MGO was such a fantastic surprise that came with Guns of the Patriots.

Also I don't believe him. I mean, there is so much he can do with characters after MGS4 I'm sure he will return and make an MGS6 one day 😛

I am. I loved MGO.

Even if he feels like the story has come to a close with MGS5 he could remake MGS1 for PS4. That would be fantastic.

Oh man I would love that. MGS1 remade with the Fox engine on the PS4 would be amazing!

Loved the mgs3 online but felt that mgo needed to get evolve a bit more, took 2 shots to the head to kill yet way too many to the body to do so which felt really wierd.

Okay, if this is really the final MGS (which is doubtful), then why not just bring back David Hayter? If the series was going to keep going and going, I'd understand bringing on Kiefer (I've been looking at it from a James Bond point of view, where every few entries, a new actor steps in), but if this is truly the last one, Hideo should've kept Hayter.

Meh, Hayter will always be Solid Snake to me. It makes sense to change the voice for an aging Big Boss.

Agreed, it's an expensive and pointless move without more entries with that character.

I have a feeling Kojima will remake Metal Gear. Then it would make sense for Big Boss and Solid Snake to have different voices.

Sad if he really means it. Would be nice to get an actual new gen metal gear. MGS5 is in a tie for my most anticipated game his gen but it's still a cross gen game.

This was well timed. First the details of the special addition then we learn that this will supposedly be the last Metal Gear.
Okay, okay, I was going to preorder the special edition well before hearing this news, but knowing this will be the last MG/Kojima masterpiece it makes me want it even more.

I would like to play as the older Big Boss during the events of MGS4. Obviously he wasn't just sitting down watching the world at war.

That could be MGS 6

I'd love to play as The Boss during her time as "The Greatest Soldier" in WW2, leading up to the formation of the Cobra unit 😀

I hope Koji certainly tries to do something new. Maybe a classic turn based big budget JRPG.

yeah i guess you gotta finish some time nothing last forever even if we would like it too thats just how things go or maybe i've wrong and MGS and AC and COD and madden and fifa etc, will go on forever maybe i'm wrong but one must wonder how long these things will go on for or can go on for.

but as far as MGS and kojima i think he will be taking a break atleast he might be a bit worn out

happy gaming
