Plex: Organize Your Media On PS4, PS3

Another great service is now available on PlayStation platforms.

As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , Plex is now available on PS4 and PS3 in the US, Canada and Latin America.

Plex organizes all your personal media, regardless of where you keep it. So, your movies, music, photos and home videos can all be in one location, and everything is arranged in a vivid, accessible display. You can also share your media collection across all major platforms and devices. Plex is currently available for free to all Plex Pass subscribers; the Pass gets you a variety of premium features and early access to new ones.

Yep, PS4 is indeed a huge entertainment hub for any living room.

So instead of setting up their own DLNA support, they just use Plex instead…in which we have to pay for. Hm.

It makes no sense to me why Sony would omit, now basic, media support from the PS4, and then try to get us to pay for it with a subscription service later on. I understand why their doing it like this, just wasn't expecting it from Sony. I cry foul.

I have pretty much given up with Sony releasing DNLA support. I went and got a chromecast to stream my movies on my synology to my tv.

Still don't understand why this wasn't one of the first feature they looked at when designing a 21st century console for the living room.

Look at the above two comments and you should see why. It's strictly business…

Sony is starting to become greedy. Couple this with the mandatory PS Plus for ps4, overpriced PSNow service and lack of AAA games for free from PSPlus every month, and you get this.

Oh and we can't forget about the lack of being able to burn music to the hardrive…but we can subscribe to Music Unlimited! Owned by Sony if I'm not mistaken.

I understand Sony charging to game online, but the quality of the service isn't really worth it yet, lag wise. Plus they constantly get taken down by hackers and take longer than Microsoft to go back online. But if PsPlus was behaved more like XBL server wise, The price could be justified…its like WTH are they doing with the $50 a year everyone gives them? UPGRADE YOUR SERVERS already!
