Troy Baker: Skyrim A “Playpen” When Compared To MGSV

We know the new Metal Gear Solid will adopt a more open structure.

But maybe we're not fully aware of just how big the game will be… In a recent Kinda Funny Games interview with voice actor Troy Baker (who plays Ocelot in MGSV), he made some very bold comments concerning The Phantom Pain .

First, he says he's "curious" to see how the long-time fans will react to the game because even though it "fits perfectly" in the franchise, it's still "really different." As for size, it's gonna be huge . In fact, he compared the new adventure to the massive RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim :

"It may be the biggest game I’ve ever seen. Just in terms of everything that you can do. Skyrim looks like an afternoon playpen next to it. It’s massive. It’s absolutely massive in what you can do."

Baker also mentioned Kiefer Sutherland, who has adopted the iconic role of Snake. Baker is aware that the hardcore faithful wanted David Hayter back but he really thinks Sutherland has handled the situation exceedingly well:

"…if you watched his feature at The Game Awards, I wanted to stand up and applaud the guy. Because the way he came out, the heart that he came out with, it’s just very contrite and gracious to all the fans.

There was like this understanding underneath: 'Look, I get it. You don’t want me to be snake. That’s fine. Neither did I, but let me tell you what made me fall in love with it, and how I told my other friends about how important this story means to the world and to entertainment period.'"

Baker said he believes the fans put Sutherland "through the fu***** ringer" and that makes the new Snake's reaction all the more impressive. In regards to the "playpen" comment, well…feel free to interpret. 😉

I still hope Solid Snake makes a cameo in the game and it is voiced by David Hayter. I'm still holding out for that.

Otherwise I don't really care, I played Ground Zeroes and Keifer does a good job.

At this point I would be shocked if he DIDN'T make a cameo. It seems pretty clear the game is going to conclude right around the time of the original Metal Gear, meaning Solid Snake is going to be coming for him. I think that would be an awesome ending, don't you? Like Big Boss is just completely deranged and powerful and a threat, and then we see Solid Snake about to be dispatched to take him out.

Hell yeah. It would be sweet if during the credits you heard a colonel talking about a mission, and then you heard david hayters snake say something short. You know like how they do that at the end of every metal gear right, the dialogue with the black screen. I think that would make for the most bad ass sneaky cameo.

I mean I'm all for seeing him in the game but I don't need that to happen to be happy:P

Wow I didn't know Troy Baker was in this as well…guy's in everything these days and I don't mean that in a bad way. He's probably the best voice actor out there at the moment and his success reflects that but it's just incredible when you look at his imdb page and see that he is in almost every major game of the last couple years.

That's too big, you lose the point.

Was thinking the same thing. I never beat Oblivion, just lost intrest eventually. Didn't even bother with skyrim, too many games and not enoughf time anymore. I will get this chapter of metal gear because I've been a fan since ps1, but I am a little worried I may not be able to complete this mission. I guess it all depends how entertaining it is till the end of the game.

Wondering if it's not bigger than skyrim in terms of size, but if there is more going on – the density of stuff happening is higher
