Rumor: Ubisoft Re-Releasing Beyond Good & Evil?

If you ask the question, "what is one of the most under-appreciated games on the PS2," a list of several titles will pop up, and for most people, Beyond Good & Evil will be on that list. However, it's under-appreciated for a reason: not many gamers got a chance to play this great action/adventure game.

Well, maybe you'll soon get another chance. The latest rumor, started by a member of the NeoGAF forums, says Ubisoft is planning to re-release the original classic for the very agreeable price of $9.99 at some point in the near future. This may make sense, as it could be a promotion for the sequel, just recently announced. Currently, BG&E is an exceedingly rare title – good luck trying to find it wedged into the PS2 used section down at the store – and to have it return would be a minor blessing. The poster said he saw it available for pre-order at a retail store, but we're thinking it may only release as a digital download version on the PlayStation Store.  These days, that's the move that would make the most sense. It requires none of the effort involved in re-producing an old title; re-packaging, re-shipping, etc, etc, etc. And besides, if it's $10 and easily obtainable on the PSN, just about everyone with a PS3 and Internet access will be tempted…

Anyway, we'll keep an eye on this rumor and see if Ubisoft has anything to say about it. It wouldn't surprise us in the least if this proved true; Beyond Good & Evil would be a steal for $9.99 and an excellent lead-in for the impending sequel.

Wouldn't adding this title to the Playstation Store require Sony to make the PS2 emulator available? (which they continue to claim they won't do)

mmm yes, unless the ps3 can play the actual games anyway, just not read them off a disc? but yes, valid point.

Yup I'm one of those who never tried it. Might give it a shot tho if it is only 10 bucks on the Store.

I'd certainly ponder the idea of nabbing it.

Sadly not many will buy it

I have the game and it's easily one of the best games of last gen.

One of the best games I have ever played. It kind of brought back my love for videogames and once I had beat it I stupidly traded it in for Jak III because my hunger for videogames had exploded… but after playing Jak it faded again, lol.
I would definitely buy the game again, either at PSN or in a physical form.

I've seen tones of second-hand copies of this game in stores in Cardiff. Maybe not so rare in the UK?
I only took notice of it before because of the Nietzsche quote "That which is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil". Never heard much about it.

No its not that rare in the uk. There's plenty on ebay and they're selling cheap.

Oliver I agree with your statement. Unless they took the effort to retool the game to work on the PS3 hardware then they would need to add the emulator support to all the unit PS3 units. Unless of course Sony wanted to confuse and insult their customers.
