Rise Of The Tomb Raider Definitive Edition A Given For PS4

Look, this is inevitable.

Even if it isn't called the "Definitive Edition," I think we all know that when Rise of the Tomb Raider finally does grace the PlayStation 4, it'll come with all sorts of bonuses and maybe even a few upgrades.

You can certainly expect to see downloadable content in the PS4 iteration, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear about some technical touch-ups. If there's at least a year's difference between the Xbox One and PS4 releases (and that's more than likely), Crystal Dynamics has time to polish, hone and improve. They also know it's absolutely going to other platforms; this timed exclusivity deal expires at some point. There's no chance they're just sitting on their laurels, waiting to produce the exact same game for the PS4 more than a year later.

They're probably looking forward to it. It's almost like releasing two separate exclusive titles; you can garner plenty of hype for each title. In the end, while it's certainly true that Xbox fans will get the game first, I think it's a given that PS4 owners will ultimately get the best version. Maybe that doesn't mean much to some of you, but it's worth pointing out.

I bet they regretted making it a Timed Exclusive after the huge backlash they got!!

if it releases at the same time as UC4 then it would get hammered in sales if it were on ps4,its actually a smart move by SE but sad for TR fans on PS.

See, I refuse to believe this is true. Gamers want good games and they usually buy more than one around the holidays. No reason Rise of the Tomb Raider couldn't have found success on PS4 even if it released at the same time as Uncharted 4, that's just a lame excuse for SquareEnix and Crystal Dynamics making an asinine decision. If the suggestion is one game or another, Halo 5 is set for release Holiday 2015 on Xbox One. While not the same type of game, if Xbox One owners can only pick one, which do you think the vast majority will go with? Hint… it's not the one starring Lara Croft.

"Most gamers usually buy more than one" -paraphrase.

I doubt it highly. Most people who love gaming enough to spend time on the internet talking about it when they aren't playing, perhaps they do. But I doubt most console owners do.

If most people bought multiple games every time, you wouldn't see the absolute most popular games in the world selling to only 10-20% of everyone who owns a system. Even CoD is barely around the 10% connection rate.

Those dumb bastards/ Tomb Raider barely worked right on xbox one, let alone making another cross platform one. I have no hopes for Rise of the tomb raider. I will definitely buy it, but won't expect much.

Honestly, I'm so pissed I don't care if it comes to PS4 or not, I'm not buying it. This treatment of the PS fanbase, the ones who buy SE's games (despite the fact they get worse by the year)is quite frankly, absolutely disgusting. I hope this game is a huge, huge fail, critically and commercially and that SE finds itself in a worse spot than Capcom. It's a despicable that has made far too many stupid decisions and I want the Tomb Raider franchise in the hands of a publisher and developer that actually care about the fanbase that supports it.

I don't think it'll be as long as a year. I got a feeling we are just talking about a few months.

Ben, I think it's your 4th article regarding the RoTR exclusivity issue and you seem quite mad. I am guessing you are voting 1st option in this week's pool? 🙂

Just as long as we get it. I can be patient and wait for the inevitable Definitive Edition. After thoroughly enjoying Tomb Raider on the PS3 I am relieved that Microsoft didn't completely ruin the ongoing story of Lara Croft. I do believe that 3rd party sequels should never, ever be exclusive if the original or part one was not. I still haven't played the DE so that will tie me over until Rise of the Tomb Raider releases on the PS4. Not to mention all the games that are coming between this Tuesday and when Rise of the Tomb Raider launches, I won't even realize we don't have the game.

I'm not losing any sleep over this. Wouldn't buy it even if it was simultaneously released on all consoles. S-E doesn't deserve a cent of my money.

TR is a great game though, SE aside.

I can't do it. I can't get myself to support a company that constantly spits out games with an identity crisis. Can't stand how out of touch they are with the fan base.

I'm hoping it's 6 months and the price drops quick. I'm not paying full price after they f*cked us.

Im sure M$ were shitting themselves at the prospect of a 720p 30 fps Xbone version showing up on Digital Foundry compared to 1080p 60fps that will be a sure thing on the PS4 and PC – so they acted in desperation to make sure the poorer version had a chance to sell.
