If the project had proven more successful, this would be an April Fool's Day joke.
But unfortunately, we've known this was coming since last year's announcement: PlayStation Home is no longer as of yesterday.
The virtual social hangout for PlayStation fans that began in 2008 officially closed its doors on March 31. Initially revealed at the Game Developers Conference in 2007, it was billed as a free, "Second Life-style" virtual environment where you could run around as an avatar and interact with fellow gamers. You could purchase and decorate your own apartment, explore various parts of Home (some PlayStation exclusive titles had dedicated areas), play games, and just mingle.
And while millions visited, and there was a re-launch in 2011, it just never reached its full potential. The idea may have been sound but I was saying it from the beginning: If gamers sit down and turn their consoles on, it's to play a game. It might be to watch a movie or something else, but I think Home was always low on the priority list.
PSX Extreme even did a few shows for their theater, which was sort of fun but required a lot of time and effort on a shoestring budget. At any rate, Home was an interesting experiment, don't you think?
Nooooooooooooooo
Waste of HDD space, deleted it after a week & never went back.
I would have if the streaming feature from PS3 hdd to virtual tv in our apartments was enabled, copyright or no copyright it was a private room!
I liked it but didn't want it. There were better ways to do it that would have worked and this kind of stiff version wasn't worth putting time into.
Still, it was always full to the brim with people.
Way too intensive and intrusive. A nice concept, I just only have so many hours in the week to game and can't possibly be bothered with something like this. Adios, Home.
Playstation Home is in foreclosure.
I still remember going into Home in 2009, and receiving gifts for playing Resident Evil 5.
Home was alright. I played around on there years ago, but of course loss of time equals loss of smaller stuff like this. Hope it comes back to PS4 though. I still wouldn't use it, but others would.
I liked it alot. There were many great games on it.
There was a budget required to sit around a house talking about games on camera?
Not that a cynical asshole like you needs an answer, but if I remember correctly they did invest in some greenscreen stuff and a shotgun mic, which is not cheap.
I for one liked your Home show, and enjoyed finding other community members in the theater to talk to at the time. It's how I became PSN friends with a few people on here like Jawknee, legendarywolfe and bikersaint. The trick was trying to get on the same instance, lol.

mk ultra: That's hardly all we had to invest in.
But really, don't bother. Kid's a genius, remember? …well, substitute "colossal douchebag" for genius and maybe that's more accurate. His act has worn thin; he'll leave when people stop responding to it.

I'm sure. I didn't mean to insinuate that's all you paid for. Just giving an example off the top of my head to show it certainly wasn't free as he implied.
Your right, I apologize. I'll stop feeding the troll.
Mk: We've had very few interactions, but I think those were generally positive, usually agreeing on enjoying a game. So, why resort to the name calling and bootlicking?Have I ever personally offended you? If you actually watched those vids and agree that it cost slightly above nil to produce, then you are lost, friend. I personally know a Youtuber with about 50,000 subs that besides the intial cost of equipment (which wasn't that much), produces three pieces of original content everyday at zero cost, unless you factor electricity. Not to mention, my very good friend who used to work in a record store with me wrote, filmed, and produced two full length horror movies for 5,000 a pop. Now that took some doing.
I was genuinely intrigued if it did cost money to produce because I thought maybe he had to pay to have certain games in the shows if they were going to be viewed on Home itself. I always wondered about that process.
If that's not the case I have no earthly idea what the budget was used for. Two things I know that weren't invested in: Editing, because that whole Duke Nukem bit should have been quarantined, and a few ounces of charisma. Yikes.
From being in the beta up till it's close i liked home. It was bad when they removed Mic usage due to some ignorant people. I liked using the lounge to launch games with friends but not all games supported that feature. It was a good concept but they didn't really give us a reason to use it. I remember when it got trophy support just to encourage usage.
Home was done half-assed and bound to be a failure from the start, it was never clear what their intentions even were with the project??! One of those massive wastes of resources from Sony during the PS3-gen…
I remember watching E3 2009 in the theater, super laggy and hilarious. I feel bad for all those people who spent so much money on virtual clothes. I do believe there was an audience for it but it was done half-baked. Maybe in the far future it'll return in a more optimized and defined fashion. Good-bye PShome!
yeah i never used it but whatever i guess the writing was on the wall awhile ago, i believe you said that some time ago ben but feel free to correct me going based on memory i might be wrong
happy gaming
They never bothered to realize Home's true potential, and honestly it was half-assed. But of course I couldn't tell them a better way of implementing it.
Long story short, good idea, bad execution…
Positive memories from me.
I'll miss it. It was basically a virtual chat room and gave my friends and I a place to chill and fool around after some games. I didn't spend too much money (20ish dollars total) other than some clothes, dance moves and a few apartments within my 5 years on there.
Since they had a substantial amount of feebries throughout the years to where you could still look decent without paying a cent. It was a telling sign when they had cancelled a Vita version that was released in Japan a few months prior I believe? (Feel to correct if wrong). Too bad though, it had a lot of potential and hope they revisit the idea again but perfect it even more in the future.
