2015 Fails: Games You Just Didn’t Get

In point of fact, I don't believe 2015 was a big year for disappointments.

I daresay that most anticipated titles delivered the goods and even if they wren't masterpieces, they were still solid products and, to many, wildly entertaining.

But there are always a few that simply don't click with you. Maybe it's because the game just didn't live up to your lofty expectations, or maybe it's because the game was simply not very good, regardless of those expectations. Perhaps a popular choice will be Star Wars: Battlefront , which felt a little light and didn't resonate with most critics. Then again, many others might vote for The Order: 1886 , which will remain controversial for a very long time.

But this is really more about the game that wasn't up your alley but, by all rights, it should've been. For me, it's probably Dragon Quest Heroes , which felt like a mediocre hack 'n slash action game with a bunch of role-playing elements grafted onto the back end. It had some of the classic RPG goodness for which this franchise was always so well known, but that was about the only upside for me. The rest was just a sea of monsters amid bad camera angles on a Dynasty Warriors -esque battlefield. Yippee. I know it's a spin-off but how you can even put the name "Dragon Quest" on the box is beyond me. And you know, I don't care what anyone says; personal preferences aside, the game simply wasn't that good in the first place.

One game that was obviously great that I couldn't get into was Bloodborne . I really wanted to like it but in the end, it felt like too much of a chore. One other title is actually Rory McIlroy PGA Tour ; I thought I'd have a fantastic golf game that I'd play the crap out of during the summer but it just didn't pan out. Everything I'd heard about the game – like being able to completely customize the stroke mechanic – made me excited to try it, but it was another game that felt oddly empty and devoid of personality, and the mechanics just seemed erratic. Bring on the new Hot Shots Golf !

How's about you?

Bloodbourne. Still going to push myself to play it eventually in the hopes it will finally grab me. But what little I have played, two thumbs down.

Don't torture yourself, thats how I came to loath Demon's Souls.

Haha, I played Demon Souls for a bit. I threw in the towel after about 10 hours. Felt like it was wasting my time having to restart after dying.

Ditto. It's kinda like, you know, I have to do things with my time not waste it.

Time and patience…then you can master the genius of All Souls games and Bloodborne. Bloodborne is actually easier than Dark Souls 1 and Demons Souls. Beating a boss never felt more gratifying in any other game.

I'm exactly the same. Now I know it's a great looking game runs so smooth etc etc.

However this is not metal gear to me it's more like peace walker 2. Too episodic and not enough codec talk you can message back but you just get the same messages. I'm struggling to finish it myself.

Chapter 3 is probably way too soon to throw in the towel on whether you'll like the game or not. You haven't even given it a chance.

"It's more like Peace Walker 2"

Peace Walker is a fantastic entry.

On the contrary. Chapters 1 & 2 were plenty of time to get a grip on whether you like the game or not. Chapter 3 is by and large rehashes of 1 & 2 missions on harder difficulties. And personally, I felt the payoff for the unnecessary and lazily implemented grind was weak.

This was the 1st game that actually felt like a chore to play for me in a long time, starting shortly after Chapter 2.

This year was great for me overall. One of the best in memory actually.
While no game I wanted and or played disappointed me, there were disappointing events: Witcher 3's launch and post launch patches that promised improvements that sometimes brought downgrades. The shoddy PS4 port of Ultra Street Fighter 4. Batman's ending. MGSV's decision to tuck most of the story away into cassette tapes.

But other than that it was an incredible year overall.

I kinda liked the cassette tapes. It allowed you to listen to the story while you continued to farm soldiers and resources.

And yes, Batmans ending was pretty dull.

Excluding Batman's dull ending, it was a well produced ending overall. The game itself dripped of Batman DNA. I loved it…even the Batmobile. And let's not forget, MGSV had no ending to even critique lol

Great year for gaming overall, but Mass Effect and Uncharted seem ready to outshine 2015. Dang!!!

To be fair there was no "real" ending because it leads into the beginning of the franchise.

That's pretty true. Man what a great series. MGS and GTA will always hold a special place in my heart.

The Witcher III for me. It has a pretty veneer to be sure, but all the STUFF you can do feels useless and the combat makes any fighting accomplishments more the work of luck than skill. Then the campaign broke inside a cave and there's nowhere I can go to advance it.

I still have it, hoping one day to try again and see what others do. But I think I might sell, along with the goodies I might get a few bucks. Now I'm worried about that Punkish game CD Prjct Red is making because I wanted that but these guys aren't very good at making games.

I've heard that they're great at doing PC games, but I think this is their 1st big attempt at trying their PC skills out on Consoles, isn't it????

Witcher was on Xbox but maybe you could call this the first "Big" one. It just goes to show me that what passes for PC gamers isn't necessarily in line with what passes for console gamers.

I'm well aware everyone else loved the game, but that's mostly a part of multiplatform games on consoles being more of a revolution of PC gaming than console gaming. It's easy to bamboozle people these days with big open worlds. Nevermind that the world is samey and not much that goes on there matters unlike as in Bethesda games.

That's why Sony 1st party games exclusivity are so important, we still get true blue made for console games.

I can't really think of a game, but if I had to choose I would go with NFS 2015. Mixed emotions with that game. It's fun, but dear god is it limited in its features. And my dsl was out for 2 days meaning this game had no use until my modem was replaced….whoa!

Biggest crime is the unpredictable handling. Turn right or left and pray to god the car does what you intend for it to do. It can break into a drift, not turn, or delay its turn. It's very unsettling because I never know how intense a drift will be or will even occur because the initiating point is quite random, but its all manageable. Just seems weird how chaotic/dramatic the handling is on drift or grip. Suspension customization is very important in this game. Got a light drift build, light grip build, and a tweener!

World,
Oh yeah, I forgot it was on the 360, which I just happen to have Witcher 2 on, but haven't even sampled it out yet due to my massive games backlog.

lol, you own lots of games when you aren't sure if you have one or not 🙂

I'm not there yet, but I do have many games I haven't touched, which worries me. I used to buy 1 game and play it through, then another. With these sales I have no choice!

For me it is Witcher III and MGSV, though they are both good games i found myself losing interest in them the further i got into them. I hope to i can find the time to go back and finish them but i am having a hard time pulling myself away from Fallout 4 which to me is game of the decade so far.
