You Know, I’m Actually Sick Of Kratos

As God of War is one of my favorite video game franchises of all time, it stands to reason that protagonist Kratos is also one of my favorite characters.

Well, yes and no.

Kratos is one of those main characters that is what I like to call "narrowly conflicted," in that we all know what his inner demons are, and we know he's always fighting them. There isn't any mystery in that conflict and as a result, his behavior can be predictable and even tiresome. There are only so many times you can see the muscular bald dude rage out at the world – and, obviously, himself – in an effort to right past wrongs, which of course can never be righted. It makes for a compelling plot but such a concept has finite appeal and staying power.

Now, I've been hoping Sony would announce a new God of War installment for some time. I suppose there's an outside chance we'll see it during the upcoming PlayStation Experience in December, but I wouldn't count on it. After a relatively lengthy absence, the question is whether or not developers Sony Santa Monica will bring back Kratos in a new adventure. Some are saying it isn't possible due to the nature of the story, while others believe the team will stick with Kratos but perhaps tackle a new theme. The Greek mythology setting is great but again, perhaps it has run its course.

I actually wouldn't mind a new character and a new theme. I think we know Kratos inside and out by this time; we know precisely what to expect, unless the writers can work in some new angle. I'd rather they didn't try, though, because at this point in the series, it would just feel awkward and forced. If you're also a fan of this critically acclaimed series, what would you like to see in the next God of War ?

you just know the next GoW will be an open world action RPG.
I actually think that would be sorta cool so as long as they kept the combat system at the fore of development.

Edit: the main character would be a child from one of many of kratos's female encounters. Just no looting please, keep it closer to batman and the first Darksiders.

I would like no more God of Wars. I loved the series, save Ascension which I never played, and 3 ended perfectly IMO.

Let Santa Monica do something else already.

I'd like to see a new character for GOW, and a lot less QTE button mashing, as those type of games always play hell on my intermittent carpel tunnel syndrome.

Just my 3 cents

They should have countinued forward instead of going to prequels. I bought GOWI-III, but didnt spend a penny on the prequels. Now it looks like the Devil May Cry series that only I play it for free when it was put at $0.00 on the PSN for the Plus members. Same for the Assasin's Creed series.

To me, Dante's Inferno was always the superior version of these type of hack and slashes. One, the story in Inferno was 1000 times better.

Kratos's battles mainly consisted of fighting monsters. Dante fought humans and the devilish versions of them in hell. Not to mention he had to decide to either send them back to hell or forgive them and send them to heaven. Moral choices dealing with human death, now that is a far more compelling
story to me than someone hacking at monsters all day long.

Give us one more God of War title with Kratos taking on Athena than i will gladly accept an ending to the series.
