Animal Crossing-inspired Alterra, in development at Ubisoft Montreal, has reportedly been canned with staff learning of this just today.
According to Insider Gaming, Alterra was inspired by Nintendo’s cozy sim series mixed with mechanics similar to Minecraft and was billing itself as a social sim with a voxel art style. The NPCs, known as Matterlings, looked akin to something like Funko Pops, and the world spanned multiple different biomes.
Patrick Redding was the game’s creative director Fabien Lhéraud as its lead producer. Alterra‘s been in development for the past three years, so it probably feels like a bit of a string for the devs that were working on the game. This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, as the studio did earlier this year scrap multiple projects, including the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.
