Rumor Mill: Doom and Bioshock

There have been a couple interesting rumors floating around from last week. These are pretty juicy if they turn out to be true. Just remember that these are rumors and may turn out to be a bunch of malarkey. So keep that in mind.

A New Doom at E3?

E3 is just around the corner (eesh, where did the time go?) and it’s about that time when developers are asked about what they have planned for the upcoming show. In an interview with Pete Hines (Senior Vice President of Marketing at Bethesda), the people over at DualShockers asked about Bethesda’s plans for E3. While he mentioned that Bethesda has quite a few different things to show at E3, his wording is oddly reminiscent of a little game called Doom:

“I couldn’t give you any guesses as to what we’re going to announce and when those games will be out. But I will say, we have a lot of new stuff to talk about at E3. Whether or not folks realize it, this is the hell on Earth time for us with E3. We are in the midst of so much planning and work for all of that content but I’m really excited.

You see that “hell on Earth time for us with E3.” That’s an interesting way to put that. Is this a hint pointing towards a new Doom reveal? Maybe, maybe not. It may not be anything but it’s just oddly worded.

Is it Likely?

It’s possible and I wouldn’t be surprised. Doom did extremely well with its 2016 reboot and the VR addition later. I feel like it’s simply a matter of time. Whether it shows up at E3 is up for debate.

New Bioshock in the Works

Kotaku released an article recently that followed the fate of the developers for Mafia 3, Hangar 13. When some of the developers for Hangar 13 were laid off they went to a “secret” 2K studio next door that is working on a new project titled Parkside. It wasn’t too long before it slipped out that Parkside is a code name for a new Bioshock game. Of course they are being pretty tight lipped about it.

“If anyone from Hangar 13 tried to strike up a conversation with them, they’d say, ‘Oh, we can’t really talk about it,’” said one person familiar with the studio. “It was all very tight-lipped.”

Take-Two has mentioned that Bioshock is definitely a series that they are sticking with and have also mentioned they are working on a popular franchise.

Is it Likely?

This one is a bit of a toss up for now. Most of it is speculation and uses other rumors and claims to add to what might be considered evidence. Another series is also a big franchise in the Take-Two family and that is Borderlands. Which is already confirmed to be in the works. Parkside could very be that as well. This one is a big maybe right now.

Are you interested in either of these? Do you think they might be true? I’m personally interested in a new Bioshock. It’s a favorite series of mine and I wouldn’t mind visiting that series again. Maybe in another time period. The series could use a revitalization of sorts. Only time will tell if either of these are true though.
