The Game Awards 2017: 6 of the Best Trailers

A few days ago they had The Game Awards and overall, it was a pretty good show. Nintendo kind of cleaned house between Breath of the Wild and Mario this year. On the Playstation side, Hellblade did very well. It was nominated for five awards and won three of them. Unfortunately Horizon (the other really good exclusive this year) didn’t win anything, although it was nominated a few times as well. You can see the winners under the trailers.

One thing is clear from this year about The Game Awards: It’s pulling double duty as an awards show and a place for announcements. There were a lot of trailers both for new games and upcoming games we already knew about. Between this and the showings at Playstation Experience, 2018 is looking to be an amazing year.

Let’s get on with the good stuff shall we? 6 of the best trailers (and a bonus) from The Game Awards 2017.

From Software Teaser

Is it Bloodborne 2? A new Dark Souls? Something new? A new Tenchu? We get a whole lot of nothing with this teaser except to let us know they are still around. Thanks guys. I think.

In The Valley of Gods

If you enjoyed Firewatch from last year, this should be exciting news right here. The creators of Firewatch, Campo Santo, are back with what looks like another interesting and immersive story. As a big fan of Firewatch, I’m pretty excited for this one.

Soul Calibur VI

It’s been about 5 years since the last proper Soul Calibur game. This trailer is looking pretty good.

Death Stranding

Enter the obligatory Death Stranding trailer that still leaves you baffled as to what’s going on. To be fair this is a much longer trailer and is a little more straightforward. Well, as straightforward as Kojima goes anyway. Some interesting theories are floating about though.

Dreams

Between The Game Awards and Playstation Experience we got a really good look at Dreams over the weekend. This trailer at The Game Awards was just the beginning but we’ll get to that later. Long story short, Dreams will surpass Little Big Planet in many ways.

Metro: Exodus

While not a reveal announcement for Metro: Exodus, the trailer showed some new footage and gave us a release date for next fall. The game looks great. And cold. And scary.

Bonus video

I have to admit this was probably the most hilarious moment of the night. Honestly it almost deserves a post of it’s own. Anyway, right before a trailer of the upcoming A Way Out, director Josef Fares came out to have a few words about the game. Well, that didn’t go quite as planned. Poor Geoff Keighley tried his best to contain the situation but Josef had something to say and, well, just watch the video.

(quite a bit of nsfw language here)

Yeah, jetlag. Right.

Overall I think The Game Awards was pretty good this year. It seems to be filling it's shoes with each year and it's pretty cool to have something like this for videogames. People are starting to take this industry a little more seriously and I think that's a good thing.
