Gearbox Defends Itself In Aliens: Colonial Marines Lawsuit

Aliens: Colonial Marines was terrible.

It has been a controversial game since it released in February of 2013, and the controversy resulted in a class-action lawsuit leveled against Gearbox Software and Sega. The suit claims that Sega falsely advertised to consumers and Gearbox stole funds away from the game to fund other projects.

However, the Borderlands developer has responded to the lawsuit, as reported by Polygon . They want to be dropped from the suit because they claim the company invested millions of their own money into Colonial Marines . Said vice president Steve Gibson:

"During the development process, Gearbox supplemented Sega's development budget with its own money to help Sega finish its game; Gearbox's contributions to Aliens: Colonial Marines totaled millions, none of which was ever repaid."

Some accuse Gearbox of building levels and even a custom engine for marketing purposes, but none of it made it into the final product. Gibson denies these allegations as well, saying Gearbox only utilized the Unreal Engine licensed from Epic Games, and that was it. "Contrary to what some believe, the pre-release demonstrations were not made using different game engines," he added.

Well, we told you this would be a mess.

I feel like some kind of standard needs to be set or something. This whole games need to be patched thing it's stupid. EA is bad for releasing unfinished games. Sega hasn't been putting out a lot of quality games lately. It's weird that a lemon law hasn't happened yet.

The thing is this isn't a Sega developed game. Only published. It's unfortunate that Gearbox ruined it and it tarnished Sega some more. Sure Sega doesn't bring out the best, however, Valkyrie Chronicles, which was in house developed, was amazing. This is a Gearbox issue since they were handed the license with faith that they would do it justice. I guess Borderlands was all they will ever care about.

So as publisher don't they have some final say in what goes out the door? I don't think that gear box is innocent at all. Didn't they do the duke nukem forever game as well ( yes I know they only finished it ) seems to me they like to cash in on quick $$$$$ to fund border lands games.

If Sony had put out a game but only published it, and was in Sega's place people would be all over Sony.

From the stories all over the net for this Sega was presented info and whatnot that was different from what the product that was released. Gearbox totally didn't even fully develop this game. It was another company. Apparently they were supposed to have had them on board to help with development but they ended up being the ones to actually develop the game.

Go to the Wiki page on this. Explains everything.

Yeah this is a mess alright. Screw you Gearbox you handled this license horribly and should pay for it. I hope they never see this license ever again. It was such an abysmal game that I am not purchasing another product from them. They didn't seem to care about how they were screwing over fans of this franchise.
