Pre-Orders Alone Covered Development Cost Of Payday 2

So basically, if the game sells even one damn unit, it will have – technically – turned a profit.

According to a statement Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson-Klint gave to investors (as translated by Gamereactor ), the team's new downloadable title, Payday 2 , has already earned back the cost of development…and it isn't even out yet.

That's because pre-orders were high enough for publisher 505 Games to break even. There's a week left, too; more pre-orders could trickle in before the game launches.

Said Andersson-Klint:

"Today Starbreeze has once again demonstrated that our strategy of focusing on our own properties is correct. Not only have we managed to deliver a desirable product in Payday 2 but also executed a promotion that few companies of our size can. We now look forward to the royalty income that can secure the company's development of its own IP in the future. That Payday 2 generates revenue for the company six days before the release is of course very unusual for games of this size and strengthens the long-term nature of our strategy."

The first Payday wasn't bad at all, and we hear the sequel will be bigger and better the whole way 'round. If you're looking for a rip-roaring, no-holds-barred co-op shooter, give it a try. Just bear in mind that it'll probably get lambasted for "teaching" kids how to rob banks…or some such idiocy.

I think I kinda want this game but as a mainly solo gamer, I don't think I'd work well with others. Can't I go in and do a heist solo?

If it is like the first game then yes. The computer will fill in the other 3 characters and they do a pretty good job.

really looking forward to this.
makes you wonder why have we had to wait so long for a bank robbery game?
would actually be a perfect history lesson, create a two sided game one side the robbers going back in history retelling some of histories most infamous robberies.
than have a LA Noire esc detective side hunting down the robbers and trying to foil their next job.

one thing i hate about this industry, it use to be about ok lets sit down and think what would be fun?
what has not been done before?
whats something unique, quirky, fun and inventive?
ok lets do that!
and thats what made the industry so great because you always had someone bringing in something new fresh and ambitious.
now you have suits sitting down saying how can we turn last years mindless pew pew into this years.
yawn.
exactly why next gen systems cant release soon enough, hopefully they will be the invigoration and injection of ambition and enthusiasm this industry so sorely needs!

I would rather play a bank robbery game set in the era of the 30's through the 50's.

I had a blast with the first payday however there were some problems with it. The cops took WAY to many hits at higher difficulties, I'm talking about traditional police uniform cops taking a clip in the chest. I know this was to force people to make headshots which on the swat cops didn't kill in one hit anyway, but it still took away from the game because you died so easily.

If they fix that with this game I'll be on board, it was definitely one of the most unique games I have played in a while.
