So the PlayStation Network has been down for a couple days now and although that is troubling, it isn't half as troubling as Sony's silence.

Thus far, we've received only one brief official statement from Sony concerning this major problem, and that hasn't been altered or updated in any way yet. The post at the Blog even asks us to "stay tuned to this space for more details" but those details just haven't arrived. All we have are a few rumors concerning the cause; some say it's due to the issue in Japan while others blame the infamous hacking group, Anonymous (who have denied responsibility).

Therefore, we – and every last PSN user out there – know absolutely nothing.

While it's certainly true that a few days isn't the end of the world, few will view this scenario as a "no news is good news" situation. In fact, from the viewpoint of the astute video game consumer, no news is nothing but bad news when it comes to such problems. Sony should know that. And no matter how terrible the nightmare is, we deserve to know at least a little something about it. Even if we don't get it back for a week or more, it would be highly beneficial from a PR standpoint to inform the millions of PSN users around the globe.

Even a vague estimate would work wonders because as far as many are concerned, silence is the absolute worst philosophy right now. Sony has always been communicative in regards to their fans and therefore, those fans have come to expect an up-front statement and a continual string of updates. We don't need to know every last technical detail, but we certainly could use a longer, more detailed apology and a "here's where we're at" update. In short- Sony, you need to speak up and say something. Anything .
