Editorial: Register Biscuit, Be Quiet

Okay, two things real quick: 1. I'm aware I stole "register biscuit" from a Penny Arcade cartoon. Don't sue us, guys. You rock. Here, have a link . 2. the guy in the picture here looks a little like the biscuit who I ran into tonight. Only slightly smarter.

Normally, I have no problem with GameStop employees. The ones around me are typically just fine. Cool guys, they usually like games, and while not the sharpest cutlasses on the rack, at least they're civil and somewhat knowledgeable. And even if they weren't, I don't like confronting the employees because their job is hard enough. Look, I worked at an EB for a few years…it was fun because that particular staff was awesome but working with the public always blows, as far as I'm concerned.

But tonight…good Lord. A Microsoft rep had clearly just left after depositing a fifty-dollar bill in this dude's back pocket. I'm behind someone in line asking the honest question, "I already have a 360 but I've been seeing these games I want to play and they're only on the PS3…are they coming to the 360?" That's how it began. I'll start with the biscuit's reply:

Biscuit: "Oh yeah, most of them are."

Customer: "Really? Because I saw a commercial for God of War III, and I was thinking that-"

Biscuit: "Oh yeah, that one will go to the 360 soon because Sony doesn't own the studio that does the game."

Customer: "Oh, okay. Well, I need a Blu-Ray player, though, so…"

Biscuit: "You don't need it. The 360 does high-def, anyway."

Customer: "But I thought only Blu-Rays were HD?"

Biscuit: "Nah, that's just what they tell people. You can get high-def on the 360 just fine."

Customer: (turns to leave) "Okay, cool. Then I guess I don't need to spend the $300. Thanks."

At this point, I obviously have to say something. I'm about ready to explode.

Me: "Wait, excuse me, but I can assure you that God of War III will not ever go to the Xbox 360. And no DVD is actually capable of HD; only Blu-Ray is the high-def format."

The customer looks a little confused and looks at the biscuit. The biscuit, for some reason, looks mad.

Biscuit: "It doesn't even matter. You don't need a PS3. All the best games are on the 360, anyway."

Me: "…really. So… God of War III , like this customer was asking about, which is not going to the 360?"

Biscuit: "Whatever. Overrated."

Me: " Uncharted 2 ? Metal Gear Solid 4 ? Heavy Rain ? LittleBigPlanet ? Demon's Souls ? Killzone 2 ? Gran Turismo 5 ?"

Biscuit: "Dude, whatever. Nobody cares about those games. Halo and Gears of War are better than any of those. Nobody gives a shit."

(It seems I'm somehow pissing him off at this moment)

Me: "Okay, fair enough. If you think so. But do you care about a game like Uncharted 2 that won Game of the Year from just about every major source on earth?"

Biscuit: (triumphantly) "GameSpot didn't give Uncharted 2 Game of the Year!"

……

Oh come on, that's effing hilarious . You know why.

Me: "Uh…you're right about that."

Customer: "Look, I don't want to start an argument or anything…I was just asking."

Me: "And you should be entitled to correct answers."

Biscuit: "Yeah, whatever."

Me: "All right, games aside…you won't even bother to mention the free online service? The vast differences in reliability? Any of that? I get that you hate the PS3 but don't you want to make a sale…?"

Biscuit: "I'm just trying to stop a customer from wasting his money."

Me: "Sadly, he's wasting his time talking to you . (To the customer) If you want a PS3, buy a PS3. Don't listen to this."

And then I left. He's lucky I was in a decent mood. I wanted to lodge his tiny stupid little head into the register tray.

Man, if I had been there I don't know that I could have kept my cool quite that much. I think I'd of had to start a war of facts. I'd of had to point out that while you had several varying ps3 only games, all he had was 2 360 games, both about shooting aliens.

Man I cannot stand people like that and sadly everyone that works at my local gamestop is just like that. I think thats what some gamestop managers look for in their employees.

The sad thing is that there are lots of people like that customer and gamestop is a place a lot fo them go for information regarding things like Ps3 stuff.

It's a sad sad gamer world we live in.

Edit: Oh and Ben, thanks for standing up for the customer and giving him the help he needed.

ROFLMFAO!!! I must have missed that article about the tree – here it is for those who would like to read Ben's other epic story:

https://temp.psxextreme.com/feature/359.html

But seriously Biscuit needed to shut up. Clearly a big 360 fanboy, major stockholder in M$ (who for fun works @ GameStop), or got a crap load of money from M$ to be talking like that. WHAT A MORON. Glad you helped out the customer…wait a minute…something doesn't seem right here…

the actual employee…was in fact giving false information which therefore means…HE WAS WASTING the customer's time…

when a customer (Ben) actually decided to spend his time to help when it wasn't his job. WOW. WOW……………………WOW!!!

But seriously – awesome job Ben.

Gamespot didn't even give UC2 GOTY!!!

Ben, maybe you should have given him the link to the Wiki page on list of awards UC2 has won.
There's about 50 or more awards on that page.

My jaw dropped when I read the whole page……..

Unbefreakinlievable!!! To stoop so low as to lie to a potential customer, lose a sale, and then try to convince a "true gamer" that GOW3 isn't worth playing. LOL. No, that's not even the worst part, to say that Halo and Gears is all a gamer needs…yeah right, oh and by the way, just so you know, water is all the body needs. Yeah, forget vitamin a,b,c,d,e,f,g (lol)…calcium, iron, and proteins. Yeah this stuff is pretty much unnecessary…I swear.

Has there been any shopkeeper that push the PS3 instead of the 360 in the US?
I heard a lot of 360 pushing but never heard of any PS3 pushing.

However, here in Malaysia just about every retailer encourage their customers for PS3, though it will always be futile as it is normal for most Malaysians to behave like, "Wow PS3 so nice, what? No pirated and the originals are so expensive? No thanks."

Hilarious! I heard stuff like this a couple years ago, but it's been a while. I think it's pretty well accepted at this point that the PS3 is winning when it comes to quality games. I am a little curious about exactly when that turning point came though.

Even xbots should be able to admit that uncharted 2 was game of the year. LMAO at "gamespot didn't give it game of the year" it took second to a different PS3 exclusive ROFL. He was probably just sore that this customer had some sort of taste outside FPS.

LOL. I get free comedy shows as well when I go to Gamestop. The employees are about as smart as a biscuit too.

It's a credit to your character that you kept your cool, I lost my temper one time in a Gamestop. Although I was in the right, ( and not because I was the customer ) I felt bad about my conduct and apologized.

@ Ben

Yeah I know, I was thinking about it as I was writing it, but the fingers took flight and before I knew it, well Whalaa…lol

I guess it depends upon how you look at it. Then again, Halo is a good game, it's just not deserving of the insurmountable hype it receives. I guess it's the equivalent of mountain spring water. Why everyone loves it is beyond me. TBH, Arrowhead water tastes like piss. You heard it hear first folks.

You know, things like this need action. This GS dude was about to utterly mislead a customer. I don't cate about a person's preferences, that's just plain wrong. In most industries misleading a customer to that extent is grounds for having your ass fired. Which is precisely what ought to happen to this GameStop drone.

P.S. This is one of the *many* reasons I do NOT purchase anything from GameStop anymore. I won't buy from Walmart either – for similar reasons.

Amazon is OK for now though.

This is why I don't talk to any employees in retail stores such as GameStop and Best Buy. I do my research online and make most of my purchases online since most retail stores have crappy prices. If I need to go to a store, I usually end up at Toys R Us or Target when they have sales or promos that beat the other stores or online and you know what? I've yet to run into a douchebag at either of those chains. They ask you what you need, and show you where to go. Not once has anyone from those two chains tried to tell me their opinion without me asking for it.

Talking to employees in general is a waste of time. Unless it's to ask where something is.

hey, i worked at best buy and i made sure i told the customers everything they knew about anything in the video game section. I even told them which things to price match because its cheaper somewhere else when noone else is around. i sold at least 2 ps3s and 1 360 everytime i worked, given that best buy doesnt give you much hours. when they ask me what do i think about each system, i tell them like it is with each systems strengths and weaknesses. The funny thing was they always asked me (the new guy) about the things they were trying to sell since they've been there. so i'm saying not all of those guys are idiots. after talking with one guy this one time about each videogame system, i actually sold him about 900 bucks worth of ps3/games/accessories for one transaction. told him what he needed and didnt need. i wish i worked on commission then.

Come to think of it, maybe thats why they didnt keep me past the holiday season, even though i did a lot better than most of the regular people. Gamestop does have a lot of idiot fanboys. On a side note, best buy has a lot of hot women, i mean alot. much better than what gamestop has.

Jed
Jed

@johnld

I work at gamestop and I'm the same way. If they ask me which is my favorite I will tell them PS3 and why it is. But if they are trying to find out what is right for them I give them the straight facts about each system.

P.S. I also worked at Best Buy and they had way more hot women. But there was this one girl I worked with at Gamestop and just let me say, DAMN!
